Manning sold me a normal, non-DRM PDF eBook!
The blog over at book publisher Manning has not been updated for several
years, so one of the latest posts is from 2005. It's about their
indecision on what to do about DRM. They started without it, then were
apparently considering switching to DRM:ed eBooks:
Manning, which was included in a physical book sale. I was pleasantly
surprised to see that I received a normal PDF, nothing proprietary, no DRM.
If the publisher is scared of offering completely unrestricted books,
the simple watermark of adding my name at the bottom of each page is a
great compromise. It's an effective way to stop casual worldwide copying,
which is the only thing DRM stops, while still not making my copy any
less useful, which proprietary formats and DRM do. Thank you!
Oh, and thanks go to Scott Hanselman for a nice discount!
